Description
Vernazza may be the only one of the five Cinque Terre villages to have a natural harbor but that doesn’t mean the seas are always kind! When the seas are rough, many of the small boats are pulled up onto the small spit of sand that passes for a beach or even onto the piazza where there are usually restaurant tables. Humans seem to have an endless fascination with boats and these are no different, entertaining photographers trying to catch the perfect shot. In 1997, the Cinque Terre area of Italy was recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and in 1999 the National Park of the Cinque Terrewas created. Today the main source of revenue for Vernazza is tourism. However, as a testimony to the strength of centuries-old tradition, fishing, wine and olive oil production still continue.
